Where were you before joining Copy House?
Before joining Copy House I worked for Condatis, a company specialised in identity and access management, part of the Sitekit group. My background is in journalism and I have always had a keen interest in technology. I co-founded an IT company called Mozanim and a professional language institute called TaalTaal in my native country of the Netherlands.
How long have you been a marketing manager for?
I’ve worked in various marketing related roles since 2008, so approximately 12 years.
What’s your favourite part of marketing?
Marketing provides the business with the all-important insight into the customer and their needs. It helps the business focus, differentiate and grow. My favourite part of marketing is solving the strategic puzzle. Once that is in place, the consequential tactical actions will make sense and feel purposeful.
What initially attracted you to the position at Copy House?
I was attracted to the opportunity to add value to a company with great potential for growth. Copy House benefits from the flexibility of having a smaller team whilst working with some fantastic clients on their content strategies.
What will your new role involve?
I will create Copy House’s marketing strategy to drive leads and be valuable to our customers, then translate this strategy into marketing campaigns and various supporting activities.
Where do you see your career in 5 years?
Wherever my career will be, I hope to look back on the past 5 years with a sense of satisfaction and achievement.
What’s the best advice someone ever gave you?
No specific piece of advice as such, but my approach to business is significantly inspired by ‘The Lean Startup’ by Eric Ries. I think the contents of this book could be summarised as ‘continuous improvement’: start with a simple concept and then keep iterating it.
How do you spend your time when you’re not working?
I am a horticulture enthusiast -- I recently obtained my Level 1 Certificate (Distinction) in Practical Horticulture by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh -- so I love working in my garden whenever the weather allows it. In addition, I am an avid gamer with a deep love for RPGs.
On weekends you will find me on one of the many walking routes around my area, or I’ll be practising boxing in Granton.
